BV’s Executive Assessment System is a formal enterprise-wide mechanism to proactively manage the risks and results of large enterprise projects. Rather than look at risks and opportunities in isolation, BV holistically models them and the relationships between them, helping boards and executives continuously evaluate key project drivers. Project teams never have all the answers up front and the Executive Assessment System helps boards and executive teams better manage ongoing changes, unanticipated pressures and the need to balance trade-offs for the duration of key enterprise projects. The Executive Assessment System mitigates the impact of negative events and improves organizational focus on the most important opportunities using a contingency management framework.
Do you need
the Executive Assessment System?
The Executive Assessment System is most valuable when your project has one or more of these characteristics:
- Is your project scheduled over a long time horizon in a changing environment?
- Are your project assumptions likely to change as business circumstances change?
- Does your current project contingency plan consist of a percentage of budget and little else?
- Are the key risks to your project difficult to articulate to key stakeholders?
- Are important trade-offs across business units difficult to accomplish?
Executive Assessment System Steps
Step One: BV works with the project sponsor to validate the need to holistically manage key risks and opportunities using an enterprise-wide contingency management process.
Step Two: BV and client co-create an action-oriented work plan to accelerate the project’s approach to risks and opportunities in the areas of:
- Schedule
- Scope
- Budget
- Quality / Effectiveness
Step Three: BV works with key client personnel to manage key risks, evaluate alternative mitigation strategies and document impacts and probabilities of occurrence. The Executive Assessment System builds resilience into enterprise projects by providing a vehicle for answering these key questions:
- Does the project have the right destination? Why?
- What are the key bottlenecks to solve?
- How will these bottlenecks be solved? When?
- Who is going to be responsible for what?
Without this type of a resiliency mindset and the Executive Assessment System, many projects keep pushing on the same things harder, when doing different things is a better answer.
Step Four: BV finalizes and socializes the contingency management plan and works with the client to execute an ongoing and proactive process to productively manage the initiative through a continually updated plan.
